What is Sanders Sides?

Sanders Sides is a webseries on YouTube created by Thomas Sanders. In the show, a fictional version of Thomas deals with various issues by speaking to different facets of his personality. Through discussions, Thomas usually comes to conclusions until the next episode and problem arises.

The Characters

Logan/Logic

Logan represents Thomas' logic. He tries his best to be level-headed (although he sometimes fails), and he is often the voice of reason among everybody else's arguing. He is very knowledgable about a broad range of topics.

Roman/Creativity

Roman represents Thomas' creativity. He's incredibly boisterous and has a confident facade. He often acts as though he's a prince or knight (as he has a sword). He can also speak Spanish (the only side to do so fluently).

Patton/Morality

Patton represents Thomas' morality. He's silly and cracks a lot of dad jokes. Although he usually seems very happy-go-lucky, it's important to remember that he's at the heart of a lot of Thomas' feelings, not just the good ones.

Virgil/Anxiety

Virgil represents Thomas' anxiety. He starts out as the main antagonist of the series as he was incredibly combatitive and the other sides were scared of him. However, the others eventually learn to accept him.

Janus/Deceit

Janus represents Thomas' deceit, although there are discussions on if this could also be a form of self-preservation. He is incredibly sassy/sarcastic and often says the opposite of what he actually means.

Remus/Intrusive Thoughts

Remus represents Thomas' intrusive thoughts. He is also quite silly, but he has crude/dark humour. He is "dark creativity" and is like Roman's twin (although technically no more or less "related" than the other sides are to each other).

My Thoughts

Sanders Sides holds a special place in my heart. It was probably my second real fandom I joined, way back in 2017, immediately AFTER Virgil's name reveal. (Which I'm still slightly annoyed by).

I say "my second real fandom I joined" because I'd been in smaller, less active fandoms before this one, but I'd never been in the trenches like I had for Sanders Sides. I wrote fanfic, I had an entire sideblog where I was constantly reblogging things, and I participated in big bangs and fic/art exchanges. I wrote over 100k words across all my Sanders Sides fics.

It was glorious. I kind of miss those days.

I love the characters--and even though they're all facets of Thomas' personality, they hold so much depth. Their dynamics are funny and sweet, and the series has a great balance of humour and seriousness.

Virgil has always been my favourite character, although Logan and Janus have slowly grown on me as time has passed. But, there's also just something about all the characters. Sanders Sides is so fanfic-able. You're able to place them in almost any situation and it works.

An episode that I love is the puppet one. (If you haven't already, hover over the pictures of Virgil, Logan, Roman, and Patton along the bottom of the screen for a little surprise).
