what is epic the musical?

Epic: the Musical is a concept musical created by Jorge Rivera-Herrans which loosly follows the events of Homer's Odyssey. It consists of 40 songs split into nine parts (called sagas). They were released between 2022-2024.

The narrative follows Odysseus trying to get home to Ithaca from Troy, where he'd been at war. He desperately wants to see his wife, Penelope, and his son, Telemachus, and they are his driving motivation throughout.

My Thoughts

I think I pretty much only listen to Epic: the Musical. Maybe a couple of times I switch it out with the Merrily we Roll Along soundtrack or something. But, yeah. I'm not a person who broadens their music interests. I don't think I could tell you my favourite music artist, because I literally don't have one.

The first time I heard Epic: the Musical was on TikTok. It was that clip of "Warrior of the Mind": "Athena! Badass in the arena" etcetera, etcetera. Anyway, I wish I could remember the exact time I discovered Epic. It was just before or just after the inital release of The Troy Saga.

Anyway, I just absolutely love it. The character development, the bops, the ballads, the vocals. It was like this musical was made for me specifically; it ticks every one of my boxes.

I'm not really a participant in the fandom itself. While I've written a couple fics, I consider myself more on the outskirts. I'm not reblogging fan content on Tumblr all that much or engaging with it (other than watching animatics). I'd call myself more of an observor than a participant.
